Sixt UK: 4,334 journeys in one month

How desk QR codes and confirmation emails turned RouteMe into part of the Sixt rental journey across 10 UK branches.

Rental car pickup is one of the most stressful moments of a trip. You have just landed or stepped off a train, you are carrying bags, and the car is somewhere in a garage with no signal. Sixt and RouteMe set out to make that walk obvious at every UK branch.

The numbers

Between August 8 and September 8, 2026, travelers started 4,334 RouteMe journeys across 10 Sixt UK branches. 2,306 began from a link in the Sixt confirmation email and 2,028 from scanning a QR code at the desk. Travelers left 159 thumbs up and 21 thumbs down, an 88% positive rating.

What made the difference

The standout branches were the London rail locations. Battersea and Victoria each ran close to or above 1,000 journeys in the month. Both have a QR code on the desk, and agents prompt every customer to scan it after handing over the keys. At those branches, usage runs at or above one journey per rental.

Airport branches lean on the confirmation email instead. At Heathrow Terminal 5, most journeys started from the email before travelers ever reached the desk.

The lesson is simple: put the link where the customer already is, and give agents a reason to point at it.

What is next

Desk QR codes and agent prompts are now part of the standard setup for new Sixt branches, and branches without desk scanning are next in line to add it.
